A Letter to My Kids

Dear Monkeys (yep, I call all three of my kids that – believe me, it fits!),

I can’t believe it’s already the first day back to school! Can you believe how quickly summer went by?

Tomorrow, my little man, you start first grade. It’s full of adventure and learning and making things with glue. Before you know it, you’ll be reading me bedtime stories from start to finish. Be brave and strong and nice to the other kids. You are a good boy.

Tomorrow, my sweet girl, you start fourth grade. You’re double digits now and this is where you start your spiral into young adulthood. Fourth grade is where adults start really listening to what you have to say, so choose your words wisely. Be honest and creative and let your spirit shine. You are a very kind and loving girl.

Tomorrow, my not-so-baby boy, you go back to day care – just as you have all summer long. Nothing will seem to change for you, but know that you are getting bigger and older by the minute. You’re going pee pee in the potty now, which means, before I know it, you’ll be graduating from high school. Be a good boy – don’t bite your friends. Keep that adorable smile and that sweet soul. You are my sunshine.

No matter what, my little monkeys, know that I love you deeply. You are and always will be my most valuable treasures. I love you. Learn lots and have a great first day of school.

Love,

Mom
