Growing up TOO FAST!

As I was escorting my sweet little just-turned-three year old boy to the car last night after leaving preschool, I grabbed his hand to safely walk through the parking lot. As I grabbed that precious little hand – he said to me the words no mother wants to hear from their youngest child:

“I’m getting too old for this.”

Man, hearing those words out of the mouth of my baby boy was like a dagger to the heart! I know they’re all growing up and soon enough, I’ll blink and they’ll be graduating from college. But, this little independent moments still take their toll.

The world was set right again, however, when that same little, “I’m too old for this” boy came knocking on my bedroom door, wanting to sleep in bed with us last night. And you know what? I curdled up with that squirmy boy and treasured every minute!

What ways are your kids showing that they are – in the words of my preschooler – “getting too old for this”?

I am happy to say my nine year old third grader still wants me to walk him to his class room, holding my hand and gives me a hug and a kiss even in front of his classmates. I will soak it in until he determines he’s “too old for this”. 🙂
