We’ve been spending a lot of time lately trying to get our house ready to put up on the market. You know, doing fun things like scrubbing trim, painting bedrooms and gathering every single stinking toy in the house into one common place.
This past weekend, the kids were with their dad, so my fiance and I went on a cleaning/fixing up spree. We cleaned my oldest daughter’s room. This, by far, was the most time intensive task. We purchased flowers. We planted flowers. We bought top soil by the truck load. It was a very long weekend. By the time the kids came home Sunday, we were ready to put the paint brushes down for a bit and play with the kids.
What do you do when you’re trying to keep the kids out of the house you’ve been cleaning all day? You look for fun things to do outside. Thus began our “Backyard Adventure.” We have a fenced backyard that backs into a wooded area. We went behind the fence, down the slope and into the woods. The brush isn’t too thick this time of year, but I definitely had to hold the hand of my toddler, who was, well, toddling over everything. My six-year-old said it freaked him out being in the woods. My nine-year old was happy to lead the way. We hiked through the woods, discovering our backyard forest and then found our way out to the road. This greatly pleased my six-year-old son who was convinced we were going to be, “lost in the woods forever!”
Oh, and I almost forgot the part they loved the most! We are getting rid of an old King sized mattress. It’s been in our garage for quite some time now. Sunday night, I flipped that puppy over and told the kids, “You always want to jump on your beds, now’s your chance!” We jumped and laughed and it was just a ton of fun.
How are you spending your first week of summer vacation?
