A friend of mine texted me the other day, thinking a little experience she just had might make good blogging fodder. I think she’s right.
Ever attended a children’s sporting event? Soccer, a Little League Game, Peewee Football, you know, something where small children and their adoring and sometimes over eager parents congregate? My friend was at her eight year old son’s baseball game the other night when another child BIT her son on the arm. The coaches talked to the other child’s mother and that mother came over and profusely apologized to my friend. Her son now has lovely black and blue teeth-shaped bruises on his arm.
That incident got me thinking about children’s sports in general and how crazy-competitive the parents can get. My two older children have played on soccer teams and I can recall many occasion where the parents were a little too involved. You know the ones: screaming from the sidelines as little Jimmy cries that, “he doesn’t wanna play anymore!”
Confession time, people. Have you ever been “that parent” (the one hollering and being wild at the game) or been the parent to “that kid” (the one biting his teammates)?

At least it wasn’t a mom biting a kid! lol Actually that is great that the mom was so apologetic instead of making an excuse for her kid. Eight is a bit old for biting though…ouch.

SoCal Soccer Mom, yeah, I was sure my friend was going to say the mom was mad at her for some reason. At least she owned up to her kid acting like a rabid dog!

I am the mom hollering at the daughter to stop practicing ballet and keep her eyes on the ball as she skips with the crowd chasing the soccer ball. Yep even though her dad and myself play on a coed soccer team our daugher has little interest in playing other then being able to say she plays soccer like mom and dad. So this summer we opted for swim lessons instead.

Miranda, funny. My brother was the exact same way with his daughter.
